Reasons why walking is healthy


Prevents Type 2 diabetes. From the Diabetes Prevention Program, they expose that walking for over 150 minutes a week and just losing 7% of your body weight for almost 12-15 pounds, can reduce and grants immunity for Type 2 diabetes by almost 58%.

Strengthens your heart. Study shows that a person who walks just some miles a day can grant him/her a prevention from heart attack or other coronary event by a great percentage compared with others who did not walk.

Good for your brain and helps alleviate depression. Studies from walking and cognitive function shows that a person who walked one and a half hours per week had significantly has better cognitive function and less cognitive decline than those who just walked less than 40 minutes per week. Study shows that walking for 30 minutes for 3-5 times a week for 12 weeks reduced symptoms of depression.

Good for your bones and improves fitness. Postmenopausal women who walk approximately one mile each day have higher whole-body bone density than women who walk shorter distances, and walking is also effective in slowing the rate of bone loss from the legs. Walking for three times a week for about 30 minutes can significantly increase cardiorespiratory fitness which helps your heart to be healthy and helps reduce body fatness. Walking also helps prevent disability in older persons.

Reduces the risk of breast and colon cancer. Women who performed the equivalent of one hour and 15 minutes to 2.5 hours per week of brisk walking had an 18% decreased risk of breast cancer compared with inactive women who does not attain the time for walking. Many studies have shown that walking can prevent colon cancer, increasing quality of life and reducing mortality.
