It is because that there is a much bigger dragon, the biggest of them all, who obviously the boss of all the dragons.
Stoick discover these things, the place where dragons come home but never knew with that of the biggest dragon. Apparently, as Stoick discovers that thing, Hiccup and Toothless were caught because it was a sin for a Viking to train and be friendly with dragons. Hiccup now is a ghost for their village because of what he done but he still believes that dragons are friendly. Stoick take Toothless to discover their place and the other dragons and went to be successful. Without knowing the biggest dragon, they fight for the other dragons but went of waking up the champion. Stoick knows that this will be the end of the Viking generation if they don’t kill this one. But his son, Hiccup knows how to kill the dragon with the help of his friends and of course Toothless. With such his great knowledge and strategies and the braveness of his personality, Hiccup successfully killed the dragon.
